ADOPTED! This little sweet peanut is Malcom, a 1 year old Shih Tzu/ Yorkie Mix who weighs about 10 lbs. Malcom came into a shelter terribly matted and dirty, but a really nice volunteer gave him a haircut and Malcom felt so much better right away. His GA foster mom absolutely adored him and says that he is a fantastic, friendly and outgoing little fella who loves everone he meets. SUGAR ADOPTED! - She is SWEET! This little girl was facing a very short life (only 6mo.) when we were asked to take her and her sisters. How could we say no? These girls are GREAT! Sugar was the most shy of the three, but has really come out of her shell in her foster home. She is great with cats, dogs and kids, has been very clean in the house - sleeps on her foster mom's bed (though she could learn not to) through the night with no mischief. Sugar is a love! Magpie ADOPTED! (Mags) is such a fun young lady! Named Magpie as she 'collects' stuff -- toys or whatever she can steal - and hides it in her bed! She is a hoot! She will have you in stitches with her antics - she loves to run and zoom around the yard after a ball, or even a leaf, a fly, anything that gets her attention! FIZZY: ADOPTED! This adorable little guy is our dear Fizzy! He came into the shelter as a stray but his family did not come and find him and so he was made available for adoption. We decided to help him find a new home, one that will spoil him and love him forever! Fizzy is about 4 years old and weighs 18lbs. He is as cute as can be. TILLY: ADOPTED Sixty pounds of loving was not what Tilly's owners thought they would eventually get when they adopted Tilly as a tiny puppy. It's a shame they didn't get a chihuahua because it turns out Tilly has grown too big and the landlord says she has to go. Off to the shelter for poor Tilly. She is a lovely young lady and is going to make some lucky family very happy. A family that is prepared for a larger dog, who will take her on excursions and love her for ever. AVIV - ADOPTED! What a heartbreaker! He looked so sad at the shelter - the staff had given him a little bed and he was curled up trying to pretend he was anywhere other than this scary place. SWIFFER - ADOPTED! - Where are all the Beagle lovers??? Swiffer is a petite Beagle. She's housebroken, excellent with other dogs, people and children! Doesn't seem that interested in cats. Playful, but has great manners! Doesn't bark much at all, even when the other dogs are barking! This little girl is a GEM!!!! She is a very friendly beagle girl around 18 months old. KIMMIE ADOPTED- She just always seems to have a smile on her face. It wasn't always so - her shelter photo was one scared and unhappy dog, but once she got into a foster home, she realized she was safe and started smiling again! KUTCHER ADOPTED! is an adorable, sweet, friendly lab puppy who has had the misfortune to make two visits to the pound at the tender age of just 5 months! Adopted as a little pup, he was returned when his owner had to move and couldn't take Kutcher! Poor Kutcher - we will find him a new family that will promise to love him forever! He is around 25lbs so a good size boy and still has some growing to do of course. Like all puppies he has plenty of energy, is very playful and has that goofy teenager look - he is very handsome! CAPONE ADOPTED! - He certainly is stunning to look at! He has a lovely gentle personality to match his handsome looks too! He had us fooled at the shelter as we thought he was a puppy - he certainly has the puppy look - but he is, in fact, around 18 months old so way past the annoying puppy behaviors! He is a tad on the shy side, in fact we had to carry him outside as he was very unsure about leaving the 'safety' of his kennel. Once in the play yard he began to relax and began to explore his surroundings. He is fine with other dogs, is on the submissive side, and loves to be by your side and be pet. PRISSY - ADOPTED! is just a happy, playful, outgoing lab mix pup who just loves life! She is only about 3 months old and weighs 10lbs. PORTER! ADOPTED! What a truly cool dog! He's about 18mo., 45lbs and seems to be the best parts of Lab and ACD around. His coat is thick and plush, gorgeous to boot, and he's got a sweet, easy-going temperament to go with those looks. He's done well with other dogs -just wants to play- and he doesn't seem to be very drivey, so will likely be ok with cats if introduced properly. There are no cats at his foster home, however. DUMPLING ADOPTED! is a very sweet, beagle girl around 2 - 3 yrs old! She was picked up by Animal Control as a stray so we don't have any information on her. She had a wound on her back that looked to have been recently stapled by a vet, so we have to think she was someone's well loved pet and they took care of her. She's also a tad on the chunky side at 22lbs. Unfortunately with no identification and no owner looking for her at the pound, Dumpling found herself looking for a new person! Kelda ADOPTED!- this beautiful girl came into the shelter with her puppies, who were all so pretty and fluffy that they found homes immediately. Of course Momma Kelda had no interest and was very sad without her babies. PPR came to her rescue - we hate to see the moms left behind. And we are so glad we did as she is just a gem! SPARKLE ADOPTED!- What a pretty girl! Her shelter photo caught our eye and when one of the volunteers offered to foster her, we were able to invite her into our program! She is sweet and everyone that meets her just loves her! (And she loves everyone back!) Such a love bug, she is so affectionate and would be perfectly happy just sitting in your lap all day! She gets on fine with other dogs, but is not really interested in playing with them. Just hanging out with her people and getting lots of love! We don't have any information on her previous life but sadly Sparkle tested positive for heartworms (which we have had treated) so it obviously wasn't a good one and we are glad that Sparkle will now find a new family that will take much better care of her.

Sully - ADOPTED! is a very sweet girl. She found herself at Animal Control with her last litter of puppies. Of course, the puppies got adopted very quickly, but poor Sully was not looking so hot and did not charm anyone with her skinny appearance! Her time was running short. ASH -ADOPTED! This poor guy was nearly hairless when he was rescued from the animal control. He'd come down with demodex mange -totally non-contagious, but really awful for a dog's skin and coat. His foster home kept him treated and loved and his coat is well on the way to one of the niftiest wire coats around! Ash spent his recovery time at a doggie daycare and is very good at speaking dog. He is quiet, respectful of other dogs, LOVES toys (he piles them up and sits on them like a dragon), has been excellent with people and is an all-around cool guy. He's about the size of a Schnauzer (15-20lbs) with the looks of a Westie. He's an adult, maybe 2-3yrs. Are you looking for a snuggle-bunny who loves to go for walks? You need Ash!

Holy Guacamole! ADOPTED! This young guy is quite the handsome fellow! We think he is a mix of Labrador and Bassett Hound. So cute! YOGI ADOPTED!His previous owner named him Yogi after the famous bear, and we can certainly see why - he is a great big teddy bear! Unfortunately his owner was not able to care for him and he ended up at the pound. PPR took him in, got him all cleaned up, treated his heartworms, and he's now ready to find his new forever family! One that will keep him on heartworm prevention and not let his hair grow too long and get matted!
His foster dad says that Yogi LOVES to eat almost as much as he loves to be with his person or go for a walk! He is a very social and friendly fella, weighs 35lbs but really needs to cut down on the snacks and lose a couple of pounds. He is around 4 years old and housetrained.

Unfortunately, a shelter is not a good place for newborn puppies and we lost almost the whole litter except for Seabiscuit and his sister Aziri. IRENE - ADOPTED! is such a little sweetheart and very pretty too. Her photos never seem to capture just how gorgeous she is with her brindle coat and soulful brown eyes! She seems to have a worried expression whenever the camera comes out! She not as big as she looks either, weighing just 20lbs at 6 months.
Irene came into Animal Control with Gretta and Velma, part of a group of pets rescued from a hoarding situation that had little human interaction. She spent several weeks in a foster family learning how to be a puppy, to play with toys and other dogs, and to learn about those important things like walking on a leash and potty training. Luckily she is a quick learner and soon was charming her way into her foster moms heart too, snuggling on the couch and sleeping on the bed at night! She ignores cats too! Irene can still be shy in new situations, of course, but she is doing great. She is a quick learner and would enjoy learning new things - she can run like the wind and jump high so maybe an agility class could be in her future too! MAYA - ADOPTED! - We are not sure how she found herself in a high kill shelter and even more astonishing is this girl nearly lost her life due to a mix up with her medical notes. On the euthanasia list due to a skin condition/hair loss. Well one look at Maya with no signs of hair loss, it was obvious a mistake was made and we were so glad we were there to rescue her. Pierogi - ADOPTED loves everybody! This 4-month old hound mix gets along great with new people and other dogs. Pierogi weighs about 25 lbs right now, but is not done growing yet. When he's playing makes a happy Chewbacca sound. He sleeps well in his crate, and loves being close to his people. In the evening he loves to cuddle up in your lap. He's very curious, has a lot of puppy energy, but is easily trainable. He's a smart boy (he already knows how to sit and spin). He's not 100% house broken, but he's almost there! Another really gorgeous boy! He was a staff favorite for personality at the animal control, so we couldn't pass him by! They were right! This guy is great. TINKER: ADOPTED! At just 3lbs, he is a TEENY TINY TEENY pocket doggy! He will steal your heart in no time - even people who are not "Chihuahua fans" are instantly smitten. What a horrible experience for a little fella like him to have to go to the shelter - picked up as a 'stray' he waited but no one came for him. He retreated to the back of his cage. The shelter staff worked with him but he was still scared and when they told us about him, of course, we got him out of there. Understandably he is wary of strangers, and being so little, the world can be a scary place so will need an owner that understands that. He is sweet though and likes to cuddle. It took just a few months to get her skin back in shape, have her teeth cleaned and removed and now she is ready for her forever lap. Barley ADOPTED (grey muzzle club - reduced adoption donation) was looking very sad and depressed when we saw him at the shelter. And he had every reason to! Not only was he shut up in a tiny cage in a very scary place, but he had lost the only home he had ever known. Unfortunately his owner died and there was no one to take Barley. We want to put that smile back on his face so we offered him a place with PPR. He is very sweet and really enjoyed being cuddled. Pekabo - ADOPTED! was obviously someone's beloved pet Unfortunately she got lost, was picked up by Animal Control and her family did not come to look for her. We could see what a friendly, sweet and affectionate girl she is and offered her a place in our rescue.

We got a call from a local Animal Control to say 4 Doxi pups had just been turned in! Luckily a volunteer was able to pick them up before they had to go back into the kennels! 3 girls and a boy, they are just adorable. They were not able to provide Pepita with a home of her own, but they provided her with vet care, had her spayed and vaccinated. All that she needed was a chance to get out there and be seen, so someone could fall in love with her. Pepita has a very short nub tail that wags constantly She is just so happy to see you. Pepita does well with other dogs too. We at PPR know that Hounds make excellent family pets and we know that Pepita will too! She clearly had a rough life and endured endless pregnancies. JONNIE - GIRL - ADOPTED!This wee baby was adopted as a present for Christmas after her litter was abandoned at the animal control. Well, puppies are terrible presents and she was soon returned. All alone, tucked away in the back, she was in trouble. Her winning personality and loving little nature won us over and we got her a foster home! It was suspected, and soon confirmed that Jonnie is deaf -she cannot hear at all. This does not stop her at all from being a wonderful, intelligent, fun-filled puppy! Jonnie adores toys and other pets. She is learning everything any other puppy can learn -housebreaking, crate training, come, good girl, no - the sky is the limit for this kid! Her foster mom has another deaf dog in the home and will be quite happy to show you all Jonnie knows, as well as to direct you to good information on being a GREAT deaf-dog parent. GIGGLES is one big love bug! And she certainly will have you in giggles as you watch her play! This young girl is just one of those really happy, smiley, friendly, tail wagging pups. She caught our eye when we were visiting the shelter as we were greeted with a smile and a waggy tail when we approached her kennel! We took her out to the play yard and she immediately found a toy! She just loves to play ball and will bring it back to you so you can throw it again! Giggles also played nicely with other dogs so she would be a good playmate if your dog needs a friend. Giggles was picked up as a stray by Animal Control and spent both Thanksgiving and Christmas stuck in her tiny cell. We can't believe her owner didn't try and find her. LADY LEE - ADOPTED!
Lady's foster mom just adores her and when we asked her to tell us about Lady Lee, she told us "She is the most perfect dog"! She is a friendly and loving, gets on great with other dogs, is quiet and well behaved in the house, and potty trained too. |
We absolutely adore Lady Lee, what a sweetheart! But such a beautiful little girl has a sad story. Her people moved away and she was found abandoned, all alone in a house. She must have been terrified and hungry. Someone alerted Animal Control and she was rescued, thank goodness. Unfortunately Lady tested positive for heartworms. Clearly her owners never really cared for her, and so we brought her into our rescue where she was fully vetted and her heartworms treated.

PICCOLINO - ADOPTED - this beautiful fellow found himself at the animal control with a painful limp. They couldn't do anything for him, so our rescue took him in and got him the operation he needed to be free of pain! He's such a sweetheart with the kindest, lovingest eyes around. He was lucky to have a wonderful foster home in GA and now one in NY -both report he is housebroken, great with dogs and all people. Puppies! How cute! These two brothers certainly have lots of kisses and cuddles to share! We were able to rescue them from the Animal Control but not before they got sick from their stay at the shelter and both spent the holidays in doggie hospital! Super friendly young girl who is around 25lbs, an older pup, under a year old. She is one smart cookie, and she sure does love cookies too! She will sit nicely if she knows you have a treat!
